Summary of Wool Sale P24/09
On the 24th wool sale of the season, the merino wool indicator decreased by 2.5% to end at 6082c per kg clean. This is 35% higher than the comparative sale a year ago, whilst the Rand has appreciated by 28% against the US Dollar over the same period.
The strengthening of the Rand once again led to a downward tendency in the wool market. In spite of this prices remain at excellent levels compared to a year ago. Prices for short wools, lox and inferior types were under pressure and declined by 3 to 5%
Competition on the sale was good. The main buyers on the sale were: Standard Wool (3,185 bales), Lempriere South Africa (1,902 bales), Stucken (1,740 bales). Of the 9,394 bales offered 9,240 were declared sold (98,4%).
The price indicators for the various microns were:
17 micron – 8275 (-1.2%)
18 micron – 7625 (-0.7%)
19 micron – 7144 (-1.4%)
20 micron – 6488 (-3.0%)
21 micron – 6338 (-2.7%)
22 micron – 6238 (-2.3%)
23 micron – 6150 (-1.6%)
24 micron – 5550 (-2.6%)
25 micron – 4800 (-3.0%)
